A CNC hot wire foam cutting machine uses a heated nichrome wire controlled by a computer (CNC) to cut expanded polystyrene (EPS), styrofoam, and thermocol into precise custom shapes. The machine follows G-code paths generated from CAD designs, enabling 0.1mm accuracy and complex 3D profiles. Unlike manual cutting, CNC control ensures perfect repeatability across hundreds of identical cuts.

What materials can this machine cut?

Our CNC hot wire cutter is designed for EPS (expanded polystyrene), thermocol, styrofoam, XPS (extruded polystyrene), and similar foam materials. The heated nichrome wire melts through these materials cleanly without creating dust or debris, producing smooth and precise edges every time.

What is the cutting precision of the machine?

The machine achieves 0.1mm repeatable cutting precision using 4-axis CNC control with high-torque stepper motors and precision lead screws. Cutting time depends on the feed rate set by the user. Each tower moves independently on X-Y axes, enabling complex tapered cuts and variable cross-sections not possible with 2-axis systems.

How does the 4-axis CNC control work?

The machine has two towers, each with independent X and Y axis movement (4 axes total). This allows the hot wire to move in different paths on each side of the thermocol block simultaneously, enabling complex 3D shapes, tapered cuts, and variable cross-sections that a simple 2-axis machine cannot achieve. For example, you can cut a shape that is a circle on one side and a square on the other.

Do I need special software to operate the machine?

Every machine comes with customised software developed by Chandrama Solutions — you don't need to download or purchase any additional software. Simply design your shape, load it into our software, and the machine takes care of the rest. The software handles G-code generation, machine control, and cutting parameters all in one place, making the entire workflow seamless and beginner-friendly.
